Sadly, the $80 we spent for professional carpet cleaning was all for naught... Jackson's rug will soon be banished to the dump, unless someone's interested in a rug that's entirely covered in a fine layer of petroleum product?
5/3: "Don't eat my feet, mom, because I can't walk without feet," Jackson replied when I threatened to eat his yummy feet while he slept!
4/16: "I'm not very happy with you, Mom." I'll take credit for teaching him this little gem.
4/6: "Guess What? Chicken Butt." I look forward to explaining this one to his preschool teacher...
3/2: "What's his name?" EVERYTHING MUST have a name. Candles, pillows, cars, books, pillows, etc. Last night, Jackson asked me to tell him the names of every kernel of corn he ate for dinner. This game gets old - fast!
3/1: "I like it very well." Said in reference to his peanut butter sandwich (absolutely NO jelly, or Jackson will freak). That school of his...teaching him to be all proper and stuff!
2/29: "I have a frog in my mouth." He means "frog in my throat."
2/25: "I'm freaking!" We're pretty sure he means "I'm freaking out!" I wonder where he learned that...
2/21: "I'm mad at you, Daddy!" "Why," Scott asked. "Because you're mad at me!"
2/19: "Why?" This, in response to EVERYTHING I say. Me: "Jackson, you have to go to bed." Jackson: "Why?" Me: "Because it's bedtime!" Jackson: "Why?" Me: "Because I said so and I'm the mom and I'm the boss of you!" Jackson: "Why?" You get the picture...
1/3: "That's not very nice, I'm going to spank you on the bottom!" I have to think he learned this one at school, as we call it a "bum," not a "bottom." Perhaps this is a threat from a schoolmate whose toys Jackson has commandeered? This one is freaking hilarious - he says it through tears or in a high-pitched scream voice.
1/3: Jackson has been saying this particularly naughty thing for the past month: "I'm not doing anything!" He says this when he knows he's in trouble...
12/22: In response to Scott's question, "What color are Mama's eyes," Jackson replies, "They're sparkly!" Awww...
12/1: "That's not a ball," whimpered Jackson after I tried to throw his sippy cup to him in the car (he didn't catch the cup). He must have learned that at school, where, apparently, he's very good about reminding his classmates about school rules, whether or not it's warranted!
11/22: "I'm done with you," Jackson said after Scott reprimanded him for something or other. I'm afraid he learned this one from his parents in the aftermath of the Aquaphor incident, when Scott and I were definitely "done" with Jackson!
11/10: "I want a baby sister." I kid you not. Completely unsolicited, too! "You have a baby sister," I said, to which he replied, "I want another baby sister."
11/9: "Take a deep breath, Daddy." This, after Scott was stern with Jackson over one of his usual antics.
11/3: "Hi there, Abby," Jackson said this morning when he greeted Abby in her crib. Pronounced: "Hi dare, Abby!"
10/29, 4 AM: "Bugs are biting me," whimpered Jackson as he stumbled into our bedroom. We turned on the lights, and, sure enough, his poor face had been devoured by mosquitos! He had awoken several times prior in the night, annoying Scott and me to no end, and we had scolded him and put him back in bed. Imagine our guilt when we finally discovered the reason for his sleeplessness...
10/24: "I poo-pooed." Stop reading if you're uncomfortable with bodily functions. I hear these sweet words, pronounced "pew pewed," twice a day. And he doesn't pew-pew in the potty, mind you. Jackson utters these sweet words moments after I put him in a pull-up and put him down for his nap. I hear it a second time after putting him in a diaper before bed. Remind me, what's the problem with the potty?!
10/23: "Don't sing," Jackson yelled when Scott and I chimed in during his rendition of the ABC song. Either he's expressing his independence, or his parents need a tune-up!
Abby "says"...
5/2: A few new words in Abby's ever-expanding vocabulary: Butterfly "pronounced Bu-er-fly," and Fishie, or "sheeshee." Painfully cute.
4/9: "I love you," said very quickly and pronounced "ah la oo." She sticks her tongue out very far on the "l" part - ridiculous.
3/16: She also says baby, doggie, shoes and cheese (I just haven't been great about logging her new words)!
3/16: "Knock Knock." Jackson has been telling "knock-knock" jokes relentlessly. Subsequently, Abby has learned to say "knock knock!"
3/1: "Hi, hi, hi," says Abby while waving her perfect parade wave. She greets every stranger with a smile, a "hi" and a wave. I'm afraid we have a flirt on our hands...
2/19: Endless screaming. This sweet girl has become a holy terror. She yells at deafening volume from her high chair, her car seat, or simply when she wants to be held. Yikes. Anyone object to a muzzle?
2/19: "Ja-ckie," which sounds like "Cha [pause] key." Ridiculously cute.
2/19: "Doggie." She's been saying this for a few days (I'm just too lame and lazy to post it on time).
11/26: "Gracias," pronounced "Ashias." I haven't heard it myself, but our nanny swears Abby says "Ashias" on a regular basis! Genius, I'm sure of it.
11/17: "Nnnnnoooo!" She learned this particularly charming take on the word "no" from her adoring older brother.
11/16: "Jackson" - pronounced clear as day!
11/14: Abby takes 15 steps at my mom's house in Mesa, AZ! She falls on her bum and looks up at us, grinning widely as we cheer and clap.
11/11: "Thank you," pronounced "tanka." Isn't she young to be saying that? It took several days and several "tanka" recurrences before I realized she did, in fact, know what she was saying! Super-genius, I'm sure of it.
11/3: Two cute things to note: 1) Abby grooves when she hears music. She shakes her hips and moves her shoulders; 2) Abby refuses to be spoon-fed. This evening, I had to place bites of her dinner on her spoon and put the spoon on the tray of her highchair. From there, she'd pick up the spoon and feed herself. Brat!
11/2: Today is Abby's 11-month-birthday. She celebrated by cutting another tooth - her sixth (two on top, four on the bottom).
10/31: Abby takes her first steps on Halloween night, just two days shy of her 11-month birthday!
10/30: Abby holds the phone up to her ear and says "hi," which sounds kind of like "hey." I'm pretty sure she's a super-genius. She also says "mama," "dada," "no" and "uh oh" - and uses these words appropriately!
10/29: No such luck on the biting hiatus...Abby chomped down on poor Jackie's arm this morning!
10/25: Abby FINALLY cuts her fifth tooth - we're hoping for a biting hiatus!
10/25: I noticed bite marks on Abby's arm today...I'm guessing Jackson retaliated!
10/23: Abby bit Jackson on both arms, leaving angry purple imprints of her four darling teeth. Jackson didn't think she was very darling...he SOBBED after one particularly fierce attack!
